Check Skyward - Marking Period Ends October 30 

The marking period ends October 30. Our deadline for all missing assignments will be Thursday, October 29. Please review Skyward and complete missing assignments. Students are always welcome to re-do assignments as well if they'd like to earn a higher grade. 

Recording Playing Tests - Do not use Google Vids

When recording or submitting a playing tests, students are asked not to use Google Vids, as the audio does not transfer well. If a student is using a chromebook, they are encouraged to use the camera feature on the device. Often, a different device might have better audio, so feel free to use that as well. 

If a video is not uploading, put the video on Google Drive and submit the Google Drive link in Google Classroom for the assignment. 

CMMS MSBOA Solo & Ensemble (7th and 8th Grade Band Students)

Solo & Ensemble open rehearsal times have been added to the Bangor Township Band Calendar. Students should be practicing their solo & ensemble music daily. Groups should be rehearsing often together. 

Required Rehearsal Time-Frames

Please check the band calendar and make sure your student plans to sign up for at least one session (sign-ups in band room) during each window:

1. Window 2: October 12 – October 26

2. Window 3: October 30 – November 13

3. Window 4: November 16 – November 23

4. Window 5: November 30 – December 4 (Note: Solos will also have two accompanist rehearsals scheduled during this week; dates TBD)

8th Grade Marching Band Night Info - October 23 (8th Grade & HS)

One of the most exciting events of the year for our 8th grade band students is almost here! On Friday, October 23, students will perform with the Bobcat Marching Band at the varsity football game. This event gives students a fun and memorable look into what marching band is like in high school, and it’s consistently a favorite among our 8th graders.

Students will stay with the band throughout the game and perform in both the pregame show, halftime show, and in the stands. Attendance at both the rehearsal and performance is required and will count as a grade.

Required Rehearsal (Monday, October 19, 6:30–8:30 PM)

• Meet in the JGHS Band Room. 

• Bring your instrument and leave your case in the band room. 

• Please pick-up your student at the JGHS Bus Loop.

• Students will receive a grade for this. 

Game Day Performance (Friday, October 23, 6 PM call time for 8th grade only)

• Report to the JGHS Band Room

• Wear blue and white (Bobcat colors)

• Game usually ends at 9:30pm or so, then we play some songs in the stands and march back. 

We’re flexible with athletic conflicts, but communication is key. If your student has a practice for the rehearsal, please reach out to me to coordinate. Students in this situation should plan to split their time 50/50 between both activities. Keep in mind we are only practicing this once, so it will be difficult if the student is not there. Please let me know if this applies so I know when to expect your student.

Halloween Extravaganza - October 28 (7-12 Grade Band)

This performance will be for 7-12 grade band students. Students will report to the JGHS Band Room at 6:30 PM. The concert begins at 7 PM in the JGHS Auditorium. 

Students are welcome to wear school-appropriate Halloween costumes if they choose, but it is certainly not required. For those who opt not to wear a costume, please ensure they wear the standard concert black attire as outlined in the band handbook. If students choose to wear a costume, please keep the following Halloween dress code guidelines in mind:

• Masks and weapons are not allowed.

• No face painting or hair coloring may be applied in the band room. Any face paint must avoid the lip/chin area so we can ensure that we can play our instrument properly. 

• Costumes may not include props, gore, painted-on blood, or fake blood.

• The School Code of Conduct applies.

Buffalo Wild Wings Fundraiser- October 26

On October 26, the Bay City Buffalo Wild Wings will donate 20% of total bill back to the band program if you show the flyer below. Spread the word! Feel free to dine-in or take-out orders. 

All State Auditions 

I would like to hear all the people auditoning for all state this week.  They are welcome to stay after school at CMMS on Monday or Wednesday, but there will also be CMMS Solo & Ensemble during that time. On Friday, I am available for All State Audition Practice as well. Scales should be memorized and the music should be performed at a high-level at this point. Those auditioning for all-state will need to be practicing quite a bit daily.

• Monday, October 19 – 6:30 PM – 8:30 PM: 8th Grade & JGHS Marching Band Evening Rehearsal

• Friday, October 23 - 5:30 - 10:00 PM: Varsity Football Game (8th Grade & JGHS)

  • 8th Grade Band: Report to Band Room by 6:00PM. 

  • HS Band: Report to Band Room at 5:30PM

• Monday, October 26 - All Day: Buffalo Wild Wings Fundraiser

• Wednesday, October 28 - 7:00 PM : Halloween Extravaganza (7th Grade, 8th Grade, and HS Band)

  • Students are to report at 6:30 PM.
